Monaco and the Italian Riviera

If heading west from Nice to Monaco there are some enticing towns and anchorages such as Villefranche, St Jean Cap-Ferrat, and Beaulieu. The Principality of Monaco with its enthralling glamorous aristocracy, famous hotels and casino, glistening yachts, and luxurious boutiques, is a true experience. Exotic Gardens, a Royal Palace, an Aquatic Museum, and the Monte Carlo Grand Prix all add to the fame and intrigue. Heading further west can provide one last French stop in Menton, before getting to the lively Italian town of San Remo. Once in Italy, a visit to Portofino with the famous Splendido Hotel and clear water harbor is a must, as well as neighboring Santa Margeurita di Liguria and La Spetzia. Anywhere down the coast is lovely and lively, with fishing towns and bike and hike mountain tops in Cinqua Terre and further stops at Viareggio, Pisa, and Livorno.
