Starting at the top of the west coast, little St Florent is what St Tropez may have been 50 years ago. Heading south on the way to Calvi we see L'Ille-Rousse with its stunning red rock formations. Calvi is an old monastic town with a base for the French Foreign Legion. Great food and fun loving people abide there! Gulfo di Porto further south, is more of an eco tour area, matching the pristine beauty of the whole island, which one should try to tour. Further stops at Ajaccio and Propriano lead one to Bonifacio, a most amazing harbor with a fortified village atop white limestone cliffs. Crossing the Straits of Bonifacio, a great little island stop is Maddalena Island, then on to the famous Aga Kahn's luxury Porto Cervo, filled with amazing yachts from around the world and bordering the white sandy beach at Cala de Volpe. Further south and just a bit less hectic is the villa town of Porto Rotundo, nestled in pines and palms. The town of Olbia is easy for a departure by air and can also provide some interesting shopping. Sicily is majestic - the food incredible, the people enthusiastic, and the history unbelievable. Mt Etna smokes happily nearby from most ports. Cruises to the glorious Aeolian Islands takes one back in time, capers flourish, seafood abounds, and festivals are everywhere!
